Social Events

Social events provide some of the best reasons to live at Escher. This page lists events that have happened in the past to give you ideas for planning your own events. Contact the Social Chair if you would like help planning an event, as they have funds available and can help advertise the event to the house.

Escher Olympics

The Escher Olympics is a day of friendly rivalry between suites. Members competed in several events, as listed here. Kevin Dunn and Courtney Ignace promoted the event creatively through a video and suite anthems. You can listen to Kevin's performance (featuring other members) of each suite anthem here!

The event itself was a smashing success in 2017, with great turnout and spirit. Bag End prevailed in the end, in a closely-fought contest.

Comedy Night

Escher threw a comedy night in the Rec Room. Performers included Escherites, central campus co-opers, and others. This event inspired AJ Van Kainen (now a former member) to organize his own comedy show later in the term, which was also quite entertaining.

Swimming, Kayaking, and Float Trips

The Huron river is a beautiful feature of life in Ann Arbor. In the warmer months, Escherites frequently make the trek to Argo Park, Bandemer Park, Gallup Park, and other scenic spots for swimming, kayaking, and floating down the river.

Karaoke Parties

Escher has a long history of karaoke parties. Our karaoke setup in the Rec Room makes these events easy to run, and members are always surprised at each other's entertainment abilities. A good time for sure.

Bonfires

Escher has several bonfires on the mound each fall. These events typically begin around sundown and often continue until late in the night. S'mores are often involved, and members who like to sing or play guitar may lead campfire songs. If you would like to organize a bonfire, you must email the house at least 24 hours in advance to give members a chance to close their windows and avoid the smoke. It is also vital that someone takes responsibility for the fire and ultimately puts it out using the hose near the Bag End door.

Basic Parties

The Work Holiday party falls into this category. These parties revolve around music and dancing in the Rec Room, often have alcohol, and occasionally evolve into karaoke parties.

EscherFest

EscherFest is typically thrown once per term. This musical event draws many central campus members and non-members as well, giving it the highest attendance of Escher's events. The Escher Band (often going by a far more entertaining name) traditionally performs here. Weather permitting, EscherFest takes place both in the Rec Room (where rock and jam acts perform) and on The Mound (where chill acoustic acts perform and there is often a bonfire).

Progressive Parties

A progressive party or simply "progressive" is a party that moves from place to place as the night goes on. A central campus progressive moves from co-op to co-op, while an Escher progressive progresses from suite to suite. These parties are great for getting to know other houses and suites.

Easter Egg Hunts

Pretty self-explanatory. Lots of great egg hiding spots in our house and on our grounds.

Haunted House

This one is a lot of work to put on, but the 2017 Escher haunted house turned our Rec Room into quite a spooky spot. Get a group together and put it on again!

Sledding

There is a hill nearby, right off Broadway, that is great for sledding.
