Referral is a process that puts a member on probationary status. The purpose of referral is two-fold.

  1. Provide an incentive for a member to improve his or her conduct
  2. Serves as a notification for future houses that this member's behavior may warrant scrutiny.

Any future contracts that the member on referral may have already signed are “held” for a predetermined period as written on the Referral Form.

Intention

Referral is a way of encouraging behavioral change, and is therefor used in the presence of uncooperative behavior. Most frequently, this behavior is not supporting the shift team and house members by not performing their house or suite chores.

Referral is a totally reversible process and therefore can be used fairly freely. It is not intended to be a form of punishment.

Removal

To be taken off referral and retain their future contract, the member must fulfill the terms and conditions outlined on their Referral Form. However, if there is not enough time for terms and conditions to be met, the House can also vote to allow the member to sign a contract while on referral.
