LBGTQ Workshop This workshop covered the basics of what LBGTQ represents, and what sex, gender, and sexual orientation all actually mean.

What does LBGTQ stand for?

Lesbian

Gay

Bisexual

Transgender

Queer/Questioning

Sex A classification based on reproductive biology. Assigned at birth most often based on the appearance of an infant's genitalia. Termed as female, male, or intersex.

Gender One's internal sense of self; not inherently connected to physical anatomy. One's gender identity can be the same or different than the sex assigned at birth. Often broken down into Gender Identity and Gender Expression.

Gender Identity: Woman, man, transgender, genderqueer, cisgender, etc.

Gender Expression: Feminine, masculine, androgynous.

Sexual Orientation A person's emotional, physical and sexual attraction and the expression of that attraction with other individuals. Termed as bisexual, same-gender loving, lesbian, gay, fluid, queer, straight, etc.


Definitions Cisgender- Someone who, for the most part, identifies with the gender which they were assigned at birth.

Transgender- Someone who identifies with or expresses a different gender identity than the one which correspond's to their sex at birth.

Androgynous- Having both male and female characteristics.
