Any member who wishes to bring a pet to Escher must understand our pet policy. This policy ensures that non-pet-owner needs are respected, especially for members with pet allergies. If you meet the requirements and wish to submit for approval, fill out this Pet Approval form to be voted on by the house. You are NOT permitted to bring a pet until you get notification from the ICC that your pet has been both approved and documented.

Section 2.8 of the Escher Constitution states our minimum house requirements:

  • The pet policy is reviewed every three years in conjunction with the ICC Membership Committee (now the Operations Committee) according to ICC Standing Rule 12.4 (the constitution listed 8.4, but it seems the ICC re-organized its standing rules).
  • Individual pets must be approved in a house meeting.
  • No pets are allowed in Trantor Mir, Walden III, Sinclair, Bag End, and Zapata.
  • Pets are allowed in Falstaff, Karma, Russell, and Valhalla.
  • Cats may be allowed in large singles in Russell and Karma.
  • No dogs are allowed in the house.

These minimum requirements may be supplemented by a more specific house standing rule, which may be changed from time to time. As a pet owner, it is your responsibility to ask house officers about any pet-related standing rules beyond those listed above.

In addition to Escher-specific requirements, ICC Standing Rule section 12.4 lays out further rules that must be followed across all co-op houses. These include aquarium size limits, acceptable pet behavior, and other important details. Keep in mind that pet owners are also subject to an additional monthly charge per ICC rules, and that unregistered pets are subject to immediate removal at the owner's expense.
