The house is composed of nine suites: Trantor Mir, Walden, Sinclair, Bag End, Zapata, Valhalla, Russell, Karma, and Falstaff.
Each suite houses approximately fifteen to twenty members, although the number may be lower during the spring and summer months when many of the University's operations slow significantly.[1] Members' rooms are either 'large singles' meant for a single occupant, large singles converted into a double room, or small singles.[2] Along with residents' rooms, each suite comprises a small kitchen and a lounge with television. Cats are allowed in 2 of the houses.
Significance of names
Each suite's name is related to a historical figure or literary work
- Trantor Mir is inspired by placed in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, Trantor being the capital planet of the Galactic Empire.
- Walden is named after Thoreau's Walden
- Sinclair is named for poet John Sinclair
- Bag End is named for the home of Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings
- Zapata is named after Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata
- Valhalla is named after the mythological hall of slain heroes
- Russell is named after Bertrand Russell
- Karma is pretty self-explanatory
- Falstaff is named after Shakespeare's fictional character Sir John Falstaff
